Sam Thunder: Composites – Blending Worlds 14.-26.11.2023

9.11.2023

Visualization is something that all of us do, consciously or unconsciously. We go places thinking about other things and moments, thus being in two (or more) places at the same time. On one level we are physically and on the other mentally or spiritually, seeing a certain moment and place both in our mind and with our physical eyes at the same time. With everything happening like this at the same time in different dimensions, which are really just different perspectives of the same moment. Different sides of the same Rubik’s cube.

Our mind’s visualization can be so powerful that you really feel what happened in the past, thinking about the past or worrying about the future. The mind is so powerful that it actually creates our experience, fusing together different perspectives and perceptions, trying to make a coherent picture. And more often than not, unsuccessfully. The exhibition aims to present this multiplicity through the means of photographic art, by creating new image entities from different images.

This exhibition is the artist’s visualization and mental picture, and the visitor’s participation is his. And this is how the images of our world and our mind come together, like the works in the exhibition.

CompoSites presents images that consist of 2–4 photos taken by the artist and combined in post- processing in various ways. No external images have been used. The goal was, in a way superimposing an imaginary image on top of an existing, real image, even though both images are “real”. In this way, mixing worlds and creating a picture through many real events and moments. Creating an image that never was, but still was. In some dimension.
